In the blink of an eye

As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone, and the place thereof shall know it no more.

Psalms 103:15-16 King James Version (KJV)

On Memorial Day weekend, my daughter and I took a trip to New York. She had been wanting to visit New York, so I finally surprised her, and we went on a mother-and-daughter mini vacation.  It was a great opportunity to get away from everything, relax, and bond, just the two of us. We enjoyed New York life, its scenery, and all the busyness.  We adapted pretty well as we rode the buses and subways to navigate throughout the cities to the various tourist destinations. Although our trip was only four days, we visited Times Square, Central Park, The Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, and Joe’s Pizza. Of course, we couldn’t go to New York without watching a Broadway musical, so we purchased tickets for the MJ Musical, which was great, and my daughter loved it.

I am thankful for having the opportunity to share that time and experience with my daughter. It’s important to enjoy life while you can and with those you love. This became clearer to me when we visited the 9/11 Memorial Museum out of all the attractions and destinations we visited, this was the highlight. As we walked through the museum, remembering the horrific and tragic day, I could not help but think about how these innocent people had no clue that their lives would end in such a violent way.  We spent close to three hours in the museum, and I kept hearing over and over again how 9/11 was just a normal day for everyone. The weather was perfect, as some people had made plans days, weeks, and months in advance. One article I read said the Yankees were scheduled to play on 9/11 because the day before the stadium was rained out.  The long-awaited New York City Mayor election was also taking place but was immediately interrupted due to the terrorist attacks.

One of the rooms caught my attention and really hit home because it showed the faces of two thousand ninety-seven innocent victims.  The victims were from all walks of life, race, nationality, ethnicity, gender, and age.  The face of an eleven-year-old boy stood out to me, and when I didn’t see anyone else with that last name, I became curious and looked him up in the kiosk, which allowed me to search for information about the victims.  He was enroute to the National Geographic Convention in California with his teacher when the plane he was on hit the Pentagon. I’m sure he couldn’t wait for that day to come and probably couldn’t sleep the night before because of his anxiety and excitement, only for it to be snatched away.

My reason for sharing my visit to the 9/11 Memorial Museum is to say that we never know the day or hour when God will call our number because this life is temporary. Although we can’t control when we will leave this earth, we can control where we spend eternity. In the blink of an eye, your life can change forever, knowing that, you don’t have to fear what tomorrow may bring, because you have a chance to repent of your sins and accept the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into your life.

You can start today with this prayer.

Let us pray,

Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life. Wash me clean. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That he died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day for my victory I believe that in my heart and make confession with my mouth, that Jesus is my Savior and Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.

Be Blessed!
